Dragon Boat Racing

The stretch of water just below Totnes, alongside Longmarsh, will be the setting on Sunday July 24th for a fun event: Dragon Boats (boats with dragon's tail and head) will bring, with a splash of colour and the rhythmical beating of drums, a touch of oriental exoticism to waters normally unfamiliar with the mystery and feeling of adrenalin and excitement created by this sport.

Dragon Boat Racing is a 2000 year old sport, a truly international sport with today over one million teams competing worldwide, making it the second most popular sport on the planet.

The River Dart will be graced with a “competition” bringing together teams of paddlers drawn from local businesses and organisations. Over a 200m course crews of 16 will re-enact this time-honoured sporting tradition.

Having the four sailing clubs of Torbay (Babbacombe, Brixham, Paignton and Torquay) combining resources for Torbay Week means that we can manage up to six courses in Tor Bay in order to cater for all types of yachts and dinghies.
